Via Laietana

Barcelona

The construction of Via Laietana was projected for the first time in 1879 and began in 1907, with the aim of communicating the Eixample with Barcelona seafront. It meant the elimination of old streets and the demolition of a large number of houses, some dating from the Middle Ages. The avenue was completed in 1926.

The photographs show the fracture points between the old streets of the historic city and the layout of the modern urbanism of Via Laietana.

Finally, the new well-aligned buildings hide the old city.
